Julie Ann Harris, LCSW

TBRI Practitioner, Level 1 Theraplay trained, Registered COS Facilitator

Acquiring Trust Through Attachment, Connection & Healing

Julie has worked in the child welfare and mental health field for over 18 years. She received her clinical license in 2006 after completing her clinical internship at Early Childhood Mental Health Services with the State of NV.  Julie’s area of expertise is working with children ages 0-6 and their families.   Julie is passionate about supporting children with histories of trauma and the families caring for them.  She received intensive training in Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI®) in 2017 by the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development at Texas Christian University and became a TBRI® Practitioner.

TBRI® is a parenting model based on the solid foundation of neuropsychological theory and research, tempered by humanitarian principles. It is a family based intervention that is designed for children who have experienced relationship-based traumas. TBRI® is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. TBRI® uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. While the intervention is based on years of attachment, sensory processing, and neuroscience research, the heartbeat of TBRI® is connection.

Julie is a Registered Circle of Security Facilitator.  The Circle of Security Parenting (COSP) program is an attachment based, parenting reflection program designed to teach parents of young children ways to nurture their child’s attachment, emotional resilience, and freedom to explore while repairing ruptured and strained parent-child relationships.

Julie is Level 1 trained in Theraplay.   Theraplay is an attachment based intervention which seeks to reorganize the right brain area, which is linked to the limbic system. These areas are concerned with co-regulation of affect and emotion and are essential for self regulation. The focus of treatment is the parent-child relationship and enhancing connection. The goal of treatment is to create (or fine-tune) a secure, attuned, joyful relationship between a child and his/her primary caregiver.

A.T.T.A.C.H. Children’s Services of NV provides training and consultation for schools, agencies, caregivers and professionals in the field.   Ongoing case consultation and Telehealth or in-home parent coaching is offered for families who receive TBRI training and desire additional support and hands on teaching in their homes.  In addition, we provide community based support groups and nurture groups in various agency settings utilizing TBRI techniques and connected parenting approaches.

Many of the families Julie serves are seeking greater capacity for regulation and connection.   We all need to feel seen, heard, loved, and safe. Sometimes, however, we miss opportunities or have difficulties with helping one another this way.  Julie attunes to the individual differences of each family member to help caregivers sensitively respond to their child’s unique, individual needs and, at times, atypical or subtle cues for connection and safety while improving developmental outcomes and cultivating joy in the parent-child relationship.
